Sensoria and Programa

Jaguar expedition

In September, Sensoria and Programa Jaguar of the National University (UNA), carried out a new expedition to set camera traps. This is part of the collaboration between Área de Conservación Guanacaste Sensoria and Programa Jaguar to record and investigate wildlife populations in the Rincón de la vieja Volcano and National Park, and Sensoria’s private rainforest reserve.

The expedition consisted of hiking a total of 20km (in two days) through thick and lush rainforest, along volcanic blue waterfalls and beautiful nature, in order to set a total of 9 camera traps, distributed in 8 strategic locations.

In the past, this collaboration has recorded diverse wildlife, documenting wildcats such as: Jaguars (Panthera onca), Pumas (Puma concolor), Ocelots (Leopardus pardalis) and Margays (Leopardus weidii); other mammals such as Central American Tapirs (Tapirus bairdii) and White Lipped peccaries, amongst others.

This investigation is fundamental to measuring the health of the Guanacaste Conservation Area, specifically within the Rincón de la Vieja National Park. Sensoria is proud to sponsor and facilitate cameras, equipment, lodging and help from its staff to better execute such task; while also helping by preserving dozens of hectares of tropical rainforest, inhabited by such majestic creatures.
